John F. Adamkoski

John F. Adamkoski, 86, Lindbergh Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.

Born March 25, 1928 in Broadalbin, New York he was the son of the late Frank and Agnes Marczak Adamkoski.

John attended Broadalbin High School and graduated from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College where he received an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Technology.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving in Germany. Later he was recalled to serve in the Korean War.

He was employed by General Electric as a Lab Technician at the Knolls Atomic Laboratory for 37 years until retiring in 1983.

John was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the James T. Bergen VFW Post 55; Inman Seniors; Perth Seniors and Fort Johnson Seniors; City of Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course and played in many golf leagues.

John enjoyed spending time with his family and having family gatherings at his camp on Sacandaga Lake where he loved fishing and enjoyed playing poker. He especially loved traveling with his wife Dorothy to Atlantic City, New Jersey Coast and on senior bus trips.

On January 13, 1952 he married the former Dorothy A. Dingo. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Robert M. Adamkoski in Amsterdam; a sister Lila Agosta of Perth; four grandchildren, Robert Adamkoski, Brian Adamkoski, Rebecca Reed and Jacquiline Marcelli; three great grandchildren, Schuyler Smith, Olivia Adamkoski, and Alyessa Reed; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was predeceased by his daughter, Paula Jean Szala.

Prayer services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 8:15 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 7;00 pm at the funeral home.

Flowers are acceptable but those desiring to may make memorial contributions in John's memory to the St. Peter's ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205.
