Hagaman's Russo falls short in U.S. Open bid

Thursday, May 15, 2014 - Updated: 8:27 AM

Bryan Bigley fired an 8-under-par 64 Wednesday to capture medalist honors in the U.S. Open golf local qualifier at the Schuyler Meadows Club.

Bigley advanced to the 36-hole sectional qualifier June 2 in Purchase.

Tied for second were Josh Hillman and Chris DeForest, both finishing at 2-under 70.

Jim Gifford also qualified, surviving a three-hole playoff that included Hagaman's Dan Russo and Steve Quillinan. All three shot 71. Russo was eliminated on the third playoff hole when Quillinan and Gifford both made birdie putts.
