Broadalbin-Perth blanks Warrensburg in Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN -- A day after qualifying for the Section II Class BB playoffs, the Broadalbin-Perth High School baseball team headed to historic Doubleday Field for its annual Cooperstown Classic with Warrensburg and the Patriots continued their run of strong play, riding a 10-run fifth inning to a 16-0 rout of the Burghers.

Tyler Schmidt went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in for B-P, which has won four of its last five on the heels of a 10-game losing streak. Luigi Magliocca added two hits, knocked in a run and scored three runs, while Jeremiah Horton and Brett Getman each chipped in two singles and drove in a run.

Joe Kelly added two RBIs for the Patriots, while Noah Martin, Brandon Raffert, Connor Pingitore, Logan DeNeuville and Andrew Gorzycki each knocked in a run.

Horton and Phil Hemstreet combined to scatter four hits in a shutout for B-P, with Horton picking up the win after striking out four in four innings before Hemstreet tossed the last three to pick up the save.

Western Athletic Conference

Galway 14, Duanesburg 3

Taylor Hartman starred on both ends, collecting four hits at the plate and striking out nine on the mound as the Golden Eagles drilled Duanesburg.

Galway (8-5, 8-5 Western Athletic Conference) scored in each of its six at-bats, including a seven-run third inning sparked by six hits.

Duanesburg was led by two hits apiece from Drew Rice and Logan Largeteau.

SOFTBALL

Colonial Council

Ichabod Crane 15,

Fonda-Fultonville 0

Cassidy Smith ripped four singles and Kim Myers and Jen VanAlphen added three singles apiece to lead Ichabod Crane to a win over Fonda-Fultonville in a Colonial Council contest.

Non-league

Stillwater 5,

Galway 4

Danika Svendsen cranked a three-run home run and added a single as Stillwater made the most of just four hits to edge Galway.

Jessi Freebern led Galway with a double and an RBI single.

Galway finished with five hits on the day.
