Lena Tambucci Inglese, age 87, was taken home to the Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Wells House Skilled Nursing Facility in Johnstown where she had been for one day.
She had previously lived at Hillcrest Springs since September of 2013. She had lived since 1955 on Wallins Corners Road, Amsterdam.
Lena was born in Amsterdam on October 10,1926 to Angelo and Rose Palombo Tambucci. Lena was a child of the Great Depression era and knew what it meant to struggle in life. She lost her mother when she was only two and being one of five children found herself living in very difficult circumstances as a youngster.
She attended Amsterdam schools and early in life worked in local glove shops.
On June 15, 1947 she married the love of her life Joseph A. Inglese. Their union lasted almost 62 years until his passing in May of 2009.
Lena was a homemaker and a stay at home mom. She was devoted to her family throughout all of her life.
Lena is survived by her son Joseph and his wife Lucille of Amsterdam; granddaughter, GySgt. Elizabeth Inglese and her husband SFC David Aleman of Seattle, Washington, and Marlana Lewis and her husband Ian of St. Petersburg, Florida; her dear sister in law and a brother in law Mary Ann and Richard Dybas of Van Nuys, California; stepbrother Nicholas Fratangelo of Amsterdam; her dear cousin Mary Greco of Amsterdam who was like a sister. Many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides being predeceased by her parents Lena was also predeceased by her infant brother, Andrea Tambucci; sisters Caroline Ermie, Angeline Tambucci, Rose Pagles, and brother Alfred Tambucci; step sisters Grace Parisi, Rose Calisant, Caroline Greco, Gloria Greco, and step mother Anna Fratangelo Tambucci.
Lena was a woman of great faith and was a devout Roman Catholic. She was a parishioner of the former St. Michael's Church and then Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Even though her illness was taking its toll on her in recent months, she never complained, always had a kind word, and spoke of how her faith had prepared her. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her especially those friends who shared morning coffee with her at Dunkin Donuts for many years,
Her family gives thanks for her life with us. We also give thanks to Dr. Michael Sheridan for his many years of care, the staff of Hillcrest Spring for their making Lena feel so welcome when she moved there, and most recently thanks to the medical, nursing, and patient advocate staff of St. Mary's Healthcare fourth floor Maria Hall,
Services for Lena have been entrusted to the DeStefano Funeral Home. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 9:00 a.m.. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:15 a.m.
Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers it is the family's request that donations be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, St. Mary's Healthcare, the Amsterdam Family YMCA, or the charity of one's choice.
