Edward 'Butch" Sypula

Mr. Edward "Butch" Sypula, 88, formerly of Church Street, Amsterdam, New York of the Hillcrest Adult Home passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at St. Mary's Healthcare.

He was born June 6, 1924 in Amsterdam, New York a son of the late Charles and Mary Ludwin Sypula.

He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School - Class of 1942 and was a lifelong resident.

During World War II, Mr. Sypula served in the Army with the rank of Sergeant in London, England.

Mr. Sypula was employed in the Dye Scheduler at Mohasco Corporation for many years before retiring.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was a longtime member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Club and was Chairman of the Golf Commission for several years. Besides golf, Butch was an avid New York Yankees fan having been a player of the game during high school. He also enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by nephews, Thomas (Marian) Cionek and David (Carole) Cionek, both of Calabash, North Carolina; niece, Kathleen Cionek-Denk, McDonough, Georgia and nephew Brian Cionek, Lexington, South Carolina; grand nephews Jackson and Cole Cionek; grand nieces Alexis and Olivia Denk; cousins and longtime companion, Virginia Dostie.

The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, Celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
