Mrs. Alice Menge Banta, 96, formerly of South Pawling St., Hagaman, NY passed away Thursday morning April 25, 2013, at the River Ridge Living Center; LLC with her loving family at her side.

Born on November 30, 1916, in the Town of Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Frank C. and Anna Albrecht Menge. She graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1934.

Mrs. Banta was a member of the Hagaman United Methodist Church and was the first woman to serve as trustee of the church. She was a past member of the Philathea Class, Mothers Club and Mr. and Mrs. Club of the Church. Alice served as Historian of the Village of Hagaman, was a former member of the Sacandaga Swingers Dance Club of Gloversville, NY and was a member of Art-Wel Chapter #208 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was an ardent collector of antique and modern buttons and held memberships in the Mohawk Valley Button Club, as well as the Half Moon Button Club of the Capital District. She was a life member of the National Button Society, Inc., the Florida Sate Button Society and the Buckeye (Ohio) State Button Society. She was also an associate member of the Central Florida Button Club.

On June 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Stuart E. Banta. That union lasted 63 years until his passing on January 21, 1998. She was also predeceased by her daughter Jane Wagner and by her siblings Carl Menge, Marie Hill and Gladys Storey.

Survivors include her son Harold Banta and his wife Patricia of Hagaman; eight grandchildren, Lisa Banta, Cheryl Sanzari, Susan Druziak, Sarah Dzikowicz, Timothy Banta, Robert Wagner, Brenda Lamouret and Douglas Wagner; sixteen great-grandchildren, Robert Wagner Jr., Tanya Wagner, Michael Hernandez, Elizabeth Druziak, Andrew Druziak, Kayla Dzikowicz, Trevor Dzikowicz, Johnathan Sanzari, Sierra Sanzari, Michael Sanzari Jr., Evan Wagner, Erin Lamouret, Collin Lamouret, Hannah Lamouret, Billy Dowding and Bethany Keller; one great-great-granddaughter, Riley Keller; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Rev. Gregory DeSalvatore will preside.

Interment will be in Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.

The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday morning from 10:00a.m. until 11:45a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hagaman Mills Cemetery or to the Hagaman United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
