Verrazano first on AP’s final Top 10 Derby list

Monday, April 22, 2013 - Updated: 3:50 PM

NEW YORK (AP) — Verrazano is No. 1 on the AP’s final Run to the Roses’ Top 10 list of Kentucky Derby contenders.

The winner of the Wood Memorial is unbeaten in four career races, and has led the list for six of the past 11 weeks of Derby prep races.

Verrazano is one of four 3-year-olds on the list trained by Todd Pletcher. The others are No. 3 Revolutionary, No. 5 Overanalyze and No. 9 Palace Malice.

Florida Derby winner Orb remains No. 2.

The only changes on the list are Itsmyluckyday moving up two places to No. 7 and Louisiana Derby runner-up Mylute moving into a tie for No. 10 with Will Take Charge.

Santa Anita Derby winner Goldencents is No. 4. The colt is trained by Doug O’Neill, who won the Derby last year with I’ll Have Another.
