CANAJOHARIE -- Joe Winsman struck out 12, walked none and allowed just one earned run in a complete game effort, and the Canajoharie High School baseball team used a five-run third inning to top Galway, 6-4, in Western Athletic Conference action Friday.
Winsman also went 2 for 3 at the plate with a two-run single, while Buck Anderson was 2 for 3 with a two-run double for the Cougars (1-1, 1-1 WAC), who rebounded from Thursday's 6-1 loss to Schoharie.
Sam Uline went 3 for 4 with a double for Galway, which also got a 2 for 4 effort with two runs batted in from Michael Manna.
OESJ 5, B-K-W 3
Brad Smith spun a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts, and Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead and edge Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
After a Trevor Heack two-run triple and a throwing error tied the game for B-K-W in the top of the sixth, OESJ (2-0, 2-0) took the lead back on an RBI double from Dylan Klock and an RBI single from Devan Battisti.
Battisti singled and doubled for the Wolves, while Tyler Mayton and Payten Johnson each had two singles as part of a 10-hit attack. Taylor O'Connor ripped a double for B-K-W.
Mayfield 8, Duanesburg 4
Luke VanNostrand singled twice, drove in two runs and scored two runs to lead the Panthers to victory.
Jordan VanNostrand singled twice, scored a run and picked up the win on the mound for Mayfield (2-0, 2-0), tossing a complete game five-hitter while striking out 12 and walking four. Bobby Gates and Austin Lair each singled and drove in two runs to go along with two singles and a run batted in from Colden Glover.
Gates, Glover, Alex Charbonneau, Dylan Lanza and Riley Yager each scored a run for the Panthers.
Pat McGarry led Duanesburg with two singles and a run scored. Gabe Gentile chipped in a double for the Eagles, Justin Epstein singled and scored a run, Logan Largeteau laced a base hit and Mitch Hulbert scored two runs.
Western Athletic Conference
Galway 16, Canajoharie 5
Jessica Freebern ripped a double as part of a four-hit afternoon, and the Lady Eagles pounded out 19 hits and scored in each of the first six innings to overpower Canajoharie.
Felicia Snyder tripled, singled twice and drove in two runs for Galway, which also got a triple and a pair of doubles from Sabrina Williams. Emily Zawisa and Amber Schwab each contributed a double and a single.
Lauren Balfe singled and tripled to lead Canajoharie's eight-hit attack. Brittany Pitonza and Shy Logan singled twice apiece for the Lady Cougars.
