Gates' gem leads Mayfield to win

MIDDLEBURGH -- Mayfield's Bobby Gates turned in a complete game two-hitter, racking up 14 strikeouts as the Panthers topped Middleburgh, 3-1, in Western Athletic Conference baseball action Wednesday.

Riley Yager had the only two hits for Mayfield (2-1, 2-0 WAC), which scored twice in the top of the first inning and held on throghout the game.

Jon Wrigley struck out eight and walked six in taking the loss for Middleburgh.
