Fulton-Montgomery Community College announced Wednesday that Donn Truax has been named the head coach of the men's soccer team.

Truax, who is a former professional soccer player and was previously an assistant coach for the F-MCC Lady Raiders, said Wednesday that he had found out about his new post a few months back.

"So, I've been doing some indoor work with the guys, getting better there, and I'm in the process of looking at some recruits locally as well as in the city and with some contacts we have in the U.K."

Serving as assistant coach for Truax will be Rich Monroe, who was the head coach of the Lady Raiders when Truax was an assistant with that program. Monroe is the former head coach of the Amsterdam Lady Rams soccer program.

Truax said that one of his main goals is to load the Raiders up with more local talent than in past years. He said that he wants to try to help raise the level of play in local soccer, in general.

"There's definitely some talent in the area," he said. "I'd love the opportunity to work alongside some of those players and help them."

Truax said that he thought that there are players in the area capable of playing high-level soccer, a level which he wants to help them reach.

"My hopes are that after getting some solid experience and playing time here, maybe that (playing Division I soccer) is a possibility after two years here," he said.

Truax played professional soccer with the Charlotte Eagles in the USL. In one of his pair of seasons with the club, the Eagles won the league's championship.

A 1994 graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Truax now serves as the executive director of the not-for-profit Change of One ministry in Gloversville.
