Katherine Dube died at her home on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, just a few weeks before her 105th birthday.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, Katherine was a lifelong area resident and the daughter of the late Ignatius and Sophia Opalka.

She was formally educated, along with her brothers and sisters, in a one-room schoolhouse near their family farm.

She then worked at the Shuttleworth rug mill and later, during the war years, at General Electric. In her early days she loved to dance at Kane's Kastle in Schenectady; later in life she spent her time shopping for bargains and visiting with her sisters.

Katherine is the beloved mother of David Dube (Roseann Burch) of Scotia; cherished grandmother of Cathy Ritter (Neil) of New Orleans, LA, Lydia Reed (Jack) of Broadalbin, Deborah Dake (Scott) of Amsterdam, Douglas Dube (Carol) of Jamul, CA, Todd Dube (Pam Smith) of Altamont, Lucy Parry (Jeff) of Scotia, and Terri Gray (Rob) of Guilderland; very special aunt to Karen, Dennis and Abby Cooper; she is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Katherine was predeceased by her husband, Douglas, her beloved daughter-in-law, Therese, and all her brothers and sisters: Anne, Mary, John, Margaret, Frances, Victoria, Cecilia, Stephen and Barbara.

Her family especially wishes to thank the staff of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for providing a kind and loving environment for the last years of Katherine's life. They all took such good care of her.

She was truly loved by all.

The family will receive visitors at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State Street in Schenectady, on Saturday, March 16th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 600 State Street, Schenectady.

Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady.
