Karol J. Krajewski, 87, of Hawk Street, Amsterdam, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at his home.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 29, 1925 he was the son of Hipolit and Jane Puchalska Krajewski.

Mr. Krajewski was a 1943 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

He later joined the United States Navy serving on the USS Nevada which had suffered a devastating attack at Pearl Harbor and was resuming battle and was given the responsibility of protecting cargo ships as they crossed the Atlantic Ocean. He also participated in the invasions of Normandy, Cherbourg, Toulan in Southern France, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In 1946 after the termination of the war he returned to Amsterdam. He held several positions with various companies and subsequently obtained a job with the New York State Assembly's printing department from which he retired in 1989.

On June 5, 1949 he married Virginia Genatiempo Krajewski. The shared 57 years together until her death on November 3, 2006.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.

Mr. Krajewski was also interested in politics and served as the 4th Ward Alderman for 22 years. He was also a member of the Polish American Veterans, St. Michael's Society, the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society, and the 3rd and 4th Ward Democratic Club, John F. Kennedy Club, former Sacred Heart Society, St. Francis Society, chairman of the Fourth Ward Citizens Advisory Committee, and was a participant in the flag project at the Fourth Ward Memorial on the former Vrooman Avenue School grounds and organized the Fourth Ward Memorial Committee.

He is survived by his loving children Charles Krajewski and his wife Donna and John Krajewski and his wife Sandy all of Amsterdam, NY; Barbara Hollenbeck Jones and her husband Eric of Broadalbin, NY and Carol Skinner and her husband Charles of Fultonville, NY; cherished grandchildren Sarah (Tom) Urtz of Boston, MA, Billy (Jamie) Hollenbeck of Troy, NY, Lindsay Krajewski of Amsterdam, NY, Danny Furman of Saratoga Springs, NY and Todd Krajewski of Amsterdam, NY; great granddaughter Katlyn Urtz of Boston, MA; sisters in law Mary Krajewski and Shirley Topping; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church.

Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with military honors.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. The Holy Name Society will conduct a service at 6:00 p.m.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Fourth Ward memorial in c/o funeral chapel.
