Amsterdam authorities have found the body of a man who reportedly jumped into the Chuctanunda Creek around 9 a.m. today.

Police said the man, described as balding and wearing a blue jacket, was found wedged in ice in the creek directly behind Emmy Lou's Diner at Chuctanunda Street around 11 a.m.

Authorities are working to recover the man's body from the water.

Fire Chief Richard Liberti said it is believed the man jumped into the

creek opposite the public safety building in the area of the parking lot behind the city library.

"A witness called 911 and said a male did what they described as a swan dive over the overpass," city police officer Sal Megna said.

It was not immediately clear whether the man will be publicly identified.
