A brawl that broke out on McDonnell Street Friday afternoon left at least three males injured before the others involved fled the scene.

Amsterdam Police officers responded to a call around 2 p.m. for a fight outside of 5 McDonnell St., off of Guy Park Avenue, where a male was found lying in the road.

APD Officer Angie Kercado-Clymer said there were at least 10 people involved in the incident. However, Kercado-Clymer said the fight was over and the suspects were gone when police arrived at the scene.

Three males were taken to St. Mary's Hospital by GAVAC for treatment. One male had a broken nose and the other two subjects' injuries were unknown.

Clymer pointed to blood on the staircase of 5 McDonnell St. She said she heard the fight broke out over a stroller.

APD Officers Sal Megna, Alan Drake and Kercado-Clymer all said the occupants of 5 McDonnell St. refused to cooperate and give names of the suspects. Without their cooperation, the officers said it would be tough to press any charges.

"Not much that we can do, when we got here the other half was gone," Megna said.

He said they will continue to search the area for the suspects.

Witness Jackie VanValkenburgh, who lives at 12 McDonnell St., said she heard screaming coming from outside of her house before seeing the fight from her window.

VanValkenburgh said she witnessed a group of people attacking three males on McDonnell Street.

One of those males hit his head on the pavement and was knocked unconscious for a couple of minutes, she said.

"He was out," she said.

Johnny Rodriguez of 20 McDonnell St. said he was sitting outside his home when the fight began. He said this wasn't the first time a fight has broken out on his street.
