Galway's Gregg stars at Saint Rose

ALBANY -- Freshman Jordan Gregg (Galway, NY/Galway) is wrapping up a strong season for The College of Saint Rose.

Gregg was part of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships where the Golden Knights set a school record with a time of 7:00.05. Additionally, he was named the NE-10 Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week on Oct. 16, 2012. Gregg has had 13 top-five finishes including a win in the 1,000 freestyle against Adelphi with a time of 10:40.18.

Furthermore, Gregg was named to the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall semester in recognition of academic excellence.

Galway's Riccio earns state wild card

Galway wrestler Nico Riccio has earned a wild card entry into next week's NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Riccio (33-5), a senior, was the 106-pound runner-up in the Section II Division 2 (small-school) tournament Sunday in Queensbury.

AAU hoops league holding sign-ups

The Amsterdam Finest Basketball League will hold sign-ups and tryouts Feb. 23 and 25 at the former Clara S. Bacon Elementary Scool for a new AAU basketball league open to boys in grades 4-11 and girls in grades 4-8.

Sign-ups will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 23, with tryouts from noon to 6 p.m. for boys and girls in grades 4-9. The Feb. 25 tryout session is for boys in 10th and 11th grade from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

AGSA registration still open online

Registration is still being accepted for the Amsterdam Girls Softball Association's upcoming season on the league's website.
