Albert R. Marsicane

Albert R. Marsicane of Clinton, NY (formally of Whitesboro) entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, February 13, 2012.

Born in Amsterdam, NY he lived in Whitesboro, NY for much of his life before recently moving to the Villa's at Sherman Brook in Clinton, NY.

He was born on May 24, 1924, the son of the late Frank and Frances (Priore) Marsicano. He attended Amsterdam Public School where he played basketball and met Virginia Morrell. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Epsilon and the Student Council while there and joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1943. He served the military in WWII until 1946. He joins his wife, Virginia who predeceased him in November 2004.

On February 16, 1947, Al and Virginia (Morrell) were married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam, NY where they began their life together and started their family.

Al began his professional life working as Manager of Miles Shoe Store in Gloversville, NY and later joined the John Hancock Life Insurance Co. as an agent in Amsterdam. He remained there until 1966 when he was promoted to Staff Manager, and then the family moved to Whitesboro, NY. During that time, Al achieved membership in John Hancock's Honor Club (15 years) and President's Club (3 years). Throughout those years, both in Amsterdam and Utica, his excellence in selling afforded him and his wife many trips that the company offered. This allowed Al and Virginia the opportunity to travel to many parts of the country and make many lifelong friends through John Hancock.

Al demonstrated leadership in his family as well as his community. While in Amsterdam, he was a member of the St. Angello Club as well as the St. Agnello Society, where he served as President. He also served as Commander of the St. Michael's Veterans Post and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Sons of Italy.

A devout Christian, Al was a member of St. Michael's Church, Mount Carmel Church and Mount Carmel Holy Name of Amsterdam. While is Whitesboro, he was an active member of St. Paul's Church and served as an usher. Al and Virginia were members of the City of New York Mills Senior Citizens, the Whitesboro Senior Citizens, Happy Traveler and UFW Post 7393.

Surviving Al is his son and daughter in law, Frank and Ann Marsicane of Whitesboro; two daughters, Carol White and (Jerre Chilton), Amsterdam, Judy Curran of Wilbraham, MA; and eight beloved grandchildren, Andrea and Leslie White and (Jason Bibeau), Sean, Eric and Frankie Marsicane and (Mary Hoover), and Elizabeth and (Jim Angelos), Christina and (Dan Blasko) and Nicholas Curran, as well as two great grandchildren, Reardon Jessica (RJ) and Valentino (Tino).

Albert also leaves two brothers, John and Rosemary Mariscano and Vito and Christine Mariscano both residing in NC and a sister in law and brother in law, Carmella and Richard Savage of Charlton, NY. He is also survived by cousins in Schenectady and Valhalla, NY and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three sister and two brothers in law, Sophie Marsicano, Carmela and Frank Romano and Ann and John Coluni, He was also predeceased by his sister in law and brother in law, Jackie and Anthony Mercadante.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Villas for welcoming Al into their lives for the past few years. He truly enjoyed being part of that wonderful community.

Al Marsicane was a loyal and devoted husband, father, friend and mentor. He will be missed by all.

Calling hours are 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at the DeStefano Funeral Home on Route 5-S, Amsterdam, NY. The funeral Mass will be at Mount Carmel Church Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's name to the Villas at Sherman Brook, 99 Brookside Drive, Clinton, NY 13323 or to radKIDS, Inc., 9 New Venture Drive, South Dennis, MA 02661.
