Rao featured in Health Works campaign

Friday, February 07, 2014 - Updated: 9:45 AM

Dr. Govind Rao, a pediatrician in the Neena Rao Medical Center in Amsterdam, has been recognized by the state Department of Health's Public Health Works! Campaign.

As a result of being chosen for the campaign, which strives to raise awareness of essential services public health workers provide to state residents, Rao is featured on the state website during February.

Accompanying his photograph is a brief description of his work in the community.

Rao works closely with the Montgomery County Public Health Department staff and community, offering consultations on public health threats.

"Rao protects our community's overall health and well-being by encouraging external partners to support a broader public health approach," the description reads.

He supports immunization, lead, rabies and injury prevention activities and children with special health care needs throughout the community.

While working in his private practice, the Neena Rao Medical Center, Rao also promotes healthy living for parents.

The description says Dr. Rao protects his patients through promoting vaccinations for individuals for all vaccine-preventable diseases and values prevention as a means to improve the public's health.

"His prevention message is interwoven in all he does," it reads. "In his private pediatric practice, his guidance within the health department, and in his personal life. Dr. Rao is an exemplary leader to our rural local health department."
