Two sent out into the cold - Overnight fire levels home in Perth

PERTH -- An overnight structure fire on Nadler Road has left two people homeless.

The fire occurred today around midnight, according to a press release issued by the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York. Volunteers from the non-profit provided assistance to the family of one mother and her adult son.

Red Cross spokeswoman Mary Alice Molgard there were no reported injuries sustained by either resident.

The blaze leveled the house. An investigation is being pursued by the Perth Volunteer Fire Co.

Fire Chief Peter K. Watrobski did not return phone calls seeking comment this morning.

Online reports indicate the department did not return to the station until after 6 a.m. Mutual aid was provided by multiple departments.

Molgard said the Red Cross did not need to provide lodging because the family had someone to stay with locally.

Molgard believes the owner's pet may have died during the fire, but their farm animals were not harmed. At the scene, a structure appearing to be a small barn was located behind the burned remains of the home.
