John P. Mento, 79, a long time St. Johnsville resident passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 27, 2013 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, NY.

He was born in Little Falls, NY on January 31, 1933 the son of the late Joseph and Lucille (Lamanna) Mento. John was educated in Little Falls schools.

His marriage to Joyce Sweet took place on July 30, 1965 in St. Johnsville.

John was last employed at the Little Falls/Fonda Bus Company. From 1948 to 1988 he worked for the former Conrail.

With family as his foremost priority John proved himself a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Joyce; a son Rusty Mento and wife Tricia of Fort Plain; a daughter, Tammy Herringshaw and husband William of St. Johnsville; two brothers, Joseph Mento of St. Johnsville and Robert Fontaine of Utica; a sister, Denise Maugeri and husband Vincent of Utica; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Sabrina Darrach on March 6, 1997 and an infant daughter Kimberly Mento in March of 1972.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday January 31, 2013 at 6pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040, with Reverend Michael Yezierski of Seekers Fellowship, officiating.

Spring burial will take place at St. Johnsville Cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday January 31, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele St., Gloversville, NY 12078.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
