January 24, 2013

Virginia Cardenuto, 94, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away on January 24, 2013 in the comfort of her home surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 31, 1918 a daughter of Joseph and Josephine Cherico Riccio, she was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.

Mrs. Cardenuto was employed by Mohasco Industries and later Montco Manufacturing in Amsterdam.

Virginia was a parishoner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Seniors, the Port Jackson Seniors and spent many years volunteering at the former Montgomery County Infirmary.

Virginia had a passion for life, Sea breeze cocktails and throughly enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She was a social butterfly and often participated in charity and senior club events. Virginia would do anything for friends, neighbors and those she loved and was the most loyal and dependable person you could have ever met in your life. Those of you that have crossed her path were truly blessed!

Virginia married Harry Cardenuto on June 29, 1941. He passed away on October 9, 1984. She was predeceased by a son James Cardenuto who died at birth and six siblings, Sam, Peter, Robert, Lena, Mary and Louise.

Virginia is survived by her great niece, Michele LaMori of Atlanta, GA. Virginia raised Michele as her daughter and provided guidance, support and endless love. Up until these last few months, Virginia was a strong willed woman who provided those around her with "her piece of mind." Just ask Belinda Douglas, her care giver for over 4 years. "Bell" and Virginia shared stories from the past and talked of hopes for the future. Virginia and her niece Michele are so grateful for the outstanding care Belinda provided. Virginia loved "Bell" deeply and considered her part of the family.

Virginia is survived by her many nieces and nephews including Patricia Leggiero and James Leggiero who held a special place in her heart for their countless hours of dedication. Also, special thanks to Dr. Walter Cummings and Alison Aery from Community Hospice of Amsterdam. These past couple of years would not have been manageable without their expertise and understanding.

Visitation hours will be held on Monday, January 28 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam from the hours of 4:00 - 7:00PM. On Tuesday, January 29, Michele would like to welcome all family and friends to join her for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church on St. John Street in Amsterdam.

Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.
