Mr. Roger A. Lofstrom, 64, of Reid Street, Fort Plain, New York died peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Gloversville on August 30, 1948 he was the son of the late Oscar and Shirley Laverdure Lofstrom.

A lifelong area resident, Roger graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. He attended college and then entered the United States Navy; where he served proudly on the USS Kitty Hawk for four years.

Roger was first employed by Life Savers and then the NYS Canal System as a lock keeper until his retirement.

Roger was a life member of the Fort Plain VFW Post #3275 and a proud and active member of the Memorial Squad. He was also a member of the AMVETS, and American Legion Post #554. An avid outdoorsman, Roger liked to fish, hunt, and tend to his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed NASCAR and the NY Giants. Above all, he enjoyed surrounding himself with the company of his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Webster Lofstrom; three children, Kerry (Harry) Connal of Sprout Brook, Aaron Lofstrom of Fort Plain, and Caleb (Jessica) Lofstrom of Long Island; three sibling, Susan (Joseph) Perillo of Geneva, Dean(Debbie) Lofstrom of Bedford, NH, and Mark (Susan) Lofstrom of PA; three granddaughters, Kaydence, Alyssa and Natalie Lofstrom; one uncle, two aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.

Interment with military honors will take place in the Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fort Plain VFW Memorial Squad, 32 River Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 or to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 427 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
