Ruth C. Spagnola, 87, of Amsterdam passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam on January 20, 2014.

Born in Louisville, KY on February 11, 1926, she is the daughter of the late, Robert and Mary Lockner Stober.

Ruth was raised in Louisville, KY and attended local schools. She married Louis F. Spagnola on June 17, 1944. Soon after their marriage Ruth and Louis moved to the Amsterdam area. Ruth worked in the textile industry where she would sew and for a time made gloves. She was lastly employed at the Hanovers Dress Shop. In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed entertaining for her family and cooking meals. She also enjoyed their camp on the Sacandaga Lake along with Bingo, Pinochle and sevens.

Ruth is survived by her loving children, Kathleen S. (Larry) Eberle of Amsterdam, James L. Spagnola and his fiance Susan Leader of Niverville, NY and David L (Peggy) Spagnola of Ballston Spa. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, James Spagnola, Jr., Kimberly Roberts, Kyle Spagnola, Jeffrey Eberle, Larry Eberle, Jr. and Sandra Eberle Dayton; and 15 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 3:00PM until 5:00PM at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11AM at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Amsterdam.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to the Amsterdam Lions Club Lionettes, 340 Division Street, Amsterdam NY 12010.
