Gertrude "Gertie" Sheldon

Gertrude "Gertie" Sheldon 86, of Fowler Street, Hagaman NY, passed away Tuesday evening at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones after a brief illness.

Born in Amsterdam April 24, 1926 the daughter of the late Glen and Mary Esther Allen Fisher, she lived in Hagaman her entire life.

She operated Gertrude's Beauty Shop from her home for more than twenty years until she retired in 1986.

She was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman.

In addition to spending time with her family, Gertie loved quilting and sewing. She shared the fruits of her labor with family and friends alike which brought a smile to everyone's face.

On November 22, 1947 she was united in marriage to Gerald Sheldon. He predeceased her in February 1998.

Her loving family includes her daughter Gail L. Kopraski and husband Jerry of Amsterdam; son Jim Sheldon and wife Jeannie of Rexford; grandsons Scott (Elizabeth) and Mark (Kristy) Kopraski; great grandchildren Ethan, Hailey and Ashlynn; brother Gerald (Josephine) Fisher of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Gertie was predeceased by her siblings Fred, Kenneth, Jane and Blanche.

A service to celebrate her life will take place Sunday afternoon at 4 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The Rev. Cynthia Leonard officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Spring interment will take place in Hagaman Cemetery.
