Alfred J. Boguzes, 98, of Catherine Street, Amsterdam, N.Y. died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at the home of his daughter where he had resided for the past seven years. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y. on July 12, 1919, he was the son of John and Josephine Girdvainis Boguzes and was a lifelong resident. He attended high school and later attended several technical schools.
Mr. Boguzes was a WWII Marine veteran and served in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in Hagaman, NY.
On May 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Stephanie Bilinski Boguzes. She died in April 2010.
Mr. Boguzes is survived by his son, Richard (Karla) Boguzes of Mystic, Conn.; his daughter, Janis R. Peconie of Amsterdam, N.Y.; his sister, Phyllis (Eddie) Gutowski of Amsterdam, N.Y.; grandchildren, Sean Oakes and David Boguzes; great-grandsons, Jayden Oakes and Bryson Boguzes.
Mr. Boguzes is predeceased by his grandson Michael Ryan Boguzes and sisters, Helen Ralbovsy, Beatrice Mason and Barbara Fouhy.
A graveside service with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, followed by military honors by the United States Marine Corps.
