Mrs. Norma Charlotte Sackett, age 92, a lifelong Amsterdam resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Dec. 21, 2016, in the comfort of her family home.

She was born in Niskayuna on Aug. 24, 1924 daughter of the late Adam Vanvranken Freligh and Amelia Brownsey and educated Niskayuna schools. She was united in marriage with, Grover Thomas Sackett on Aug. 31, 1941 in Niskayuna. He passed away on March 2, 1982. For many years she owned and operated the family farm, High Valley Farms in Amsterdam and most recently was the operator of Bitter Sweet Lane Craft Store, also in Amsterdam. She attended the Glen Dutch Reform Church.

Survivors include her children, Charlotte Matis of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Barbara Bargstedt and husband Ernest of Amsterdam and Thomas Sackett and wife Carol of Amsterdam; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

In respecting Norma’s wishes services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Private inurement will take place in Chuctanunda Cemetery in the spring of 2017.
