BROADALBIN — Madison Oechler, 16, a student of Broadalbin-Perth High School is in critical condition after a motor vehicle crash on Monday afternoon.
Oechler and Kevin Sherman, 42, of Broadalbin were airlifted to Albany Medical Center after the incident Monday. Shortly before 4 p.m., the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a personal injury accident on Route 110 at the intersection of Lakeview Road in Broadalbin.
According to Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino, the driver of a pickup truck, Sherman, was heading toward Broadalbin when a car came through the intersection where there is a stop sign and the car was t-boned by the truck. Giardino said it appears that Sherman had the right of way.
Oechler was in critical condition as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after a four-hour surgery, according to Giardino. More details were unavailable.
Sherman was ejected from his vehicle. He was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and was treated then released. The 16-year-old female car driver from Amsterdam High School, Olivia Fiorillo, was treated by ambulance service and released.
A preliminary investigation showed no signs of alcohol or drugs being involved. Blood samples were taken from the drivers. The investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff’s department was assisted by the state police, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and the Broadalbin Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Ambulance Service of Fulton County, and Emergency Coordinator Steve Santa Maria.
