TOWN OF GLEN — A man was killed Thursday after he drove off the north shoulder of the New York State Thruway, struck a tree and his vehicle burst in flames, according to New York State Police.
Police said Aimon C. Wilks, Jr., 70, of Henagar, Ala., was traveling westbound on I-90, in the Town of Glen on Thursday when for “no apparent reason,” he drove off the north shoulder of the roadway. Wilks’ vehicle continued down an embankment and came to rest after striking a tree. Wilks’ vehicle burst into flames and was completely consumed, according to police.
Police were dispatched to the motor vehicle accident at approximately 11:43 a.m. Police said Wilks was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are still gathering information and the investigation is still ongoing. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
