Amsterdam police are continuing to investigate the apparent stabbing of a city teenager Thursday night, but no charges had been filed as of Friday evening.
At approximately 8:17 p.m. Thursday, police responded to the intersection of Guy Park Avenue and Northampton Road and reportedly located a 17-year-old Amsterdam male lying in the roadway. The teenager had apparently been stabbed in his upper chest area, according to police.
Amsterdam Police Chief Gregory Culick said detectives had secured surveillance footage from a business near where the teen was located. Culick said police were able to interview the victim, who sustained injuries described as not life threatening.
“There’s nothing shown on the video of the actual event,” Culick said. “The video only shows a handful of people, but they’re probably all involved in the same incident because the timing coincides with what the victim said.”
Culick said city detectives were investigating various leads, too.
The Amsterdam Fire Department had treated the teen at the scene and transported him to St. Mary’s Hospital for further medical treatment. He was released from the hospital.
