Water shutdown begins
Tuesday in South Side

The City of Amsterdam/Pareene Contracting announces that due to water work on the Southside there will be a water shutdown, beginning Tuesday at 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Wednesday, or until complete.

Streets with no water will be the entire Southside of Amsterdam, from the Mohawk River to the City Line.

Please note: Once the water is restored there will be a boil water advisory in effect until further notice.

Residents within the surrounding areas may also experience low water pressure or dirty water during this time.

During this time there will also be a road closure on River Street from Bridge Street to Minaville Street and Minaville Street from River Street to Erie Street.

Applications for Plumbing
License Exam being accepted

The City of Amsterdam Plumbing Board will be accepting applications for the Plumbing License Examination and a Certificate of Competency through Oct. 20, to those who qualify.

Requirements:  A person desiring or intending to conduct the trade or business of plumbing in the city of Amsterdam, shall be required to submit to an examination before an Examining Board of Plumbers appointed according to law, as to his/her experience and qualifications for such trade, business or calling. He/she must have served at least five years as a journeyman plumber in the employ of a master plumber or in the alternative, must have procured the equal of such experience or qualifications in trade school training. It shall not be lawful for a person to conduct such trade, business or calling unless he/she shall have first obtained a Certificate of Competency from the Examining Board of Plumbers in the city of Amsterdam.

Application forms are available in the city Engineer’s Office, City Hall, 61 Church St., Amsterdam. For more information, call 518-841-4301. Qualified candidates meeting requirements will be notified as to date of examination.

County to hold public hearing, review of budget

FONDA —The Montgomery County Legislature will hold a public hearing on the tentative budget as submitted by the county executive at 6 p.m.

A Budget and Finance Committee meeting will follow at 6:05 p.m. for a Budget Department Review. Departments up for review include personnel, sheriff, department of social services and public works.

FONDA — The Fonda-Fultonville Central School District Board of Education will hold a meeting today at 6:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room in the middle school.
