JOHNSTOWN — The fall meeting of the Upper Montgomery County Retired Teachers’ Association was recently held at the Johnstown Holiday Inn. Retired teachers from the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville School District hosted the meeting. New retirees attending the luncheon were recognized.

During the business portion of the meeting, Ashlee Jones of Fonda-Fultonville Central High School was announced as this year’s scholarship recipient. Also, the Outreach program sponsored by the group donates $250 to a teacher project that will help enhance his/her students’ education. The money is awarded to the school districts on a rotating basis. This year, the money will be awarded to a teacher from the OESJ district.

Douglass Purcell, president of the Caroga Historical Museum, present a program on the museum, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The museum is open during the months of July and August, Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.  Admission is free.

Retired teachers from the school districts of Fonda-Fultonville, Canajoharie, Fort Plain, and Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville are welcome to join UMCRTA regardless of place of residence. Please feel free to call 518-863-4229 for information.
