Donations sought for business clothing drive

JOHNSTOWN — HFM PTECH’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter is hosting a business clothing drive throughout the month of October. Gently used and new clothing will be accepted for donation during school hours and other times by appointment at the PTECH school, 305 Jansen Ave., Johnstown.

Items collected will be used for the business clothing closet at PTECH. This will ensure PTECH students of all shapes and sizes have professional clothing when giving presentations and when going on interviews or internships. This drive is in line with FBLA’s mission is to support the development of leadership and service to the school and local business community.

HFM PTECH is a partnership between Fulton Montgomery Community College, HFM BOCES, and The Fulton Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.  Students come from component districts of HFM BOCES and take an industry-developed curriculum in which they earn a college degree and high school diploma simultaneously. Embedded in the curriculum is an emphasis on workplace skills, including collaboration and presentation skills.

Library to display work of Eileen Sammons in October

FONDA — The Frothingham Free Library, at 28 W. Main St., display the work of Eileen Sammons, of St. Johnsville, during the month of October. Sammons writes: “What this Artist may hear most is: “Eileen, you really need to get out more often”.

Most of Sammons’ pieces portray a scene which can be found within a 10-mile radius of her home. Whether she is painting a lock on the Barge Canal or working from photos to recreate stores and taverns found along the Erie Canal, her love of the environment is captured in her watercolors. The main focus of her work is mostly found locally, but has also come to include scenes from various trips.

Eileen has participated in various local shows including Exhibitions sponsored by the Mohawk Valley Center of the Arts and the Cooperstown Art Association receiving the Frances Peaslee Ward Award at the Regional Art Show.
