Garbage collection schedule changing next week due to holiday

The Department of Public Works announces that Monday, Oct. 9 (Columbus Day) is a holiday for the Department of Public Works’ employees.

Garbage normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Garbage normally collected on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday, Oct. 11 along with the normal collection on Wednesday.

The remainder of the week stays the same.

There will be no bulk items pickup or recycling pickup for this week.

Paving work on Pershing Road today

The City of Amsterdam/CFI Construction announces that paving is scheduled to commence today on Pershing Road, from Van Dyke Avenue to Romeyn Avenue.

Traffic and parking will be prohibited during paving operations, beginning from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until complete:.

Residents of streets to be paved will be given sufficient prior notice to remove parked vehicles from posted streets. All illegally parked vehicles on posted streets to be paved will be towed at owner’s expense.

Motorists should use extra caution when traveling on streets under construction and take alternate routes if possible.

NYS Children’s Foundation holding sign-ups for free Halloween costumes

The NYS Children’s Foundation, 100 Church St., Amsterdam is holding sign-ups for free Halloween Costumes now to Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is for children between the ages of 4 and 12 and are available until they run out.
