ALBANY (AP) -- The state Thruway Authority board has set a meeting for Dec. 17 but still won't say when it plans to consider a longstanding proposal for a "modest" 45-percent increase in tolls for truckers.
Executive Director Thomas Madison says the directors will meet Dec. 17 to choose a plan for replacing the Tappan Zee Bridge linking Westchester and Rockland counties. But he says the toll hike proposed in the spring hasn't yet been added to that agenda.
The authority's meetings have been watched closely by business and trucking groups and upstate Republican assemblymen who claim the board will try to sneak the vote by the public.
NYC doctor charged with manslaughter
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City doctor has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges alleging he caused the fatal overdose of two patients.
Stan Li was released on $750,000 bond after entering the plea in state court on Thursday.
Authorities said previously that Li provided 24 prescriptions filled by David Laffer, who killed four people in a 2011 Long Island pharmacy robbery.
Li, who lives in Fort Hamilton, N.J., operated a pain management clinic in Queens. The indictment accuses the 58-year-old physician of prescribing lethal amounts of highly addictive prescription medications to two men who overdosed. The drugs included oxycodone and Xanax.
