To the editor:
The W1shfu1 Th1nk1ng Foundation would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated, volunteered their time, sponsored, donated and supported our second annual Stop the Violence 3-on-3 basketball tournament July 13 at Veterans Field Park.
The WTF was organized after the horrific, violent actions by two teenagers that ended in death of two other Amsterdam teenagers. These acts not only affected the families and friends of the individuals involved but the entire Amsterdam community as a whole. We hope to live the legacy of these two teens through our organization.
The W1shfu1 Th1nk1ng Foundation is just in its beginning stages of coming together to provide an outreach to the youth of Amsterdam. We have come a long way in the past few months and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of numerous agencies, such as the Greater Amsterdam School District, the City of Amsterdam Recreation Department, and many more.
With the help of the Amsterdam Rec Department and the GASD, we have organized a basketball league that is played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Lynch Literacy Academy outdoor courts. We have over 110 participants in the league and couldn't be more proud of the competition that is displayed during these games.
We are holding our playoffs on Saturday, Aug. 3, where teams will participate in a double-elimination playoff tournament. The games will start at 9 a.m. and we would love to see the support of the community to cheer on our teams throughout the day.
In conclusion, we would like to most importantly thank the youth of Amsterdam. Without them, the W1shfu1 Th1nk1ng Foundation wouldn't be here today. As much as we are trying to reach out and help the youth, they in turn volunteer to help set up, keep score, and other various activities to keep our events up and running, and most importantly us as an organization. We are beyond honored and privileged to work with today's youth.
We hope to see you Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Lynch outdoor courts.
