FONDA -- The Fonda High School alumni banquet was held recently at the Winner's Circle.
Welcome was extended to alumni attending by D. Dorine Oliver Dimond, president of the class of 1946. Ceil Case Furbur, class of 1954, gave the invocation and salute to the flag. A moment of silence in memory of deceased members was observed. In the absence of A. Bruce Wadsworth, vice president, roll call was done by Genevieve Aldi Wadsworth.
The first reunion banquet, after re-organization, was held July 12, 1985 at Poplars in Fultonville, with this year being the 29th reunion.
Congratulations was extended to the earliest alumnus Dorothy Veeder Starin, class of 1940, celebrating her 74th anniversary.
Congratulations was honored to Gerald Maples, class of 1944, who attended all 29 reunions. Also honored for attending 27 reunion banquets were Edith Murdock Thompson and Violet Dake Fallone, class of 1946.
Guests that were introduced were Shelia Cranker, president, and John Cassidy, secretary, of the Fonda Fultonville Central School Alumni Association.
Scholarship report was given by Dimond. Four $500 awards were given to the following: Katie Lou Gray who attended with her parents and grandmother Joyce Davis Gray, class of 1954; Tyler Cranker, son of James Cranker and grandson of great grandmother Marie Brookhiser Cranker who attended with grandmother Shelia Cranker; Shelby Wadsworth, daughter of Michelle and Douglas Wadsworth and granddaughter of A. Bruce and Genevieve Aldi Wadsworh. Jenny Wadsworth read a note from Shelby Wadsworth who was on vacation; Aidan Simonds, son of Lori and Rodney Simonds, and grandson of Evelyn and Francis Knowlton, could not attend due to a family vacation in Maine.
Scholarship memorial donations was read by D. Dimond. Diane Drake Meeusen, class of 1952, was introduced as new director. Honored classes were class of 1944 attended by Gerald Mapes-70th anniversary; class of 1949 attended by Violet Dake Fallone and Millie Nardick Healey-65th anniversary; class of 1954 attended by Celia Case Furbur, David Gibson and Joyce Davis Gray-60th anniversary.
Alumni enjoyed the memorabilia display which brought back many memories of their days at Fonda High School.
Banquet closed with the singing of the alma mater.
