Lady Patriots top Canajoharie to reach title game

BROADALBIN -- Rachel Orapello and Katie Herba scored 10 points apiece, and Kaitlin Wood overcame an off night offensively with her rebounding and defense as the Broadalbin-Perth Lady Patriots stifled Canajoharie, 39-23, Friday night in the opening round of B-P's holiday tournament.

Wood scored only five points for B-P, but grabbed 14 rebounds and was credited with five steals. Kylie Gifford chipped in six points for the Lady PAtriots, who scored 35 points in the final three quarters to overcome a sluggish start.

Kayla Bowerman scored six points, while Kara Schwab and Ariannah Logan each scored five for Canajoharie.

B-P will face Stillwater in the championship game tonight at 7 p.m., preceded at 5:30 by the consolation game between Canajoharie and Hudson. Stillwater topped Hudson, 42-34, in Friday's other opening-round game at B-P.

Mayfield Holiday Tournament

Middleburgh 51,

Mayfield 24

Taylor Cater and Amanda Roney combined for 26 points as Middleburgh cruised to a championship game win over Mayfield.

Cater had 14 points and Roney scored 14 for Middleburgh, which ran out to a 17-3 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back.

Cailey Meca had had points and Alex Sheldon added six to league Mayfield.


Galway 35, Heatly 25

Stifling defense and a team-high seven points from Tegan Matthews helped the Lady Eagles push past Heatly.

Amanda Gould and Grace Milton each added seven points for Galway, which was tied 13-13 at halftime before outscoring Heatly 22-12 over the final two quarters.

Heatly's Cayla Heffern led all scorers with 11 points.


Dick White Holiday Tournament

Fort Plain 60,

Cooperstown 45

Stephen Belden scored 14 points and Chris Hanifin notched a double-double as the Hilltoppers outscored Cooperstown 30-14 after halftime to spoil the Redskins' hometown holiday tournament opener and advance to tonight's championship game.

Hanifin had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Hilltoppers, who also got nine points from Jake Sardina. Fort Plain will play Sidney in the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m..

Ethan Bliss had nine points to lead Cooperstown.

Woodward Tournament

Northville 62,

Duanesburg 45

Kalob Russell's 16 points led three players in double figures as the Falcons topped Duanesburg.

Jason VanNostrand added 14 points for Northville (4-4), which will face Doane Stuart in the championship game today at 3 p.m., while Tim Monette chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds. Barcley Hayward and Jim Grega contributed eight points apiece.

Kevin Lenehan had 16 points for Duanesburg, which will face Galway in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

Christmas Classic

Schoharie 55, Johnstown 47

Conner Brown's game-high 18 points paced the Indians past Johnstown in the opening game of the round-robin event at Canajoharie High School.

Evan Ottman and James Sackett each added 13 points for Schoharie.

Ricky Mitchell led the Sir Bills with 15 points in defeat. Johnstown will face Canajoharie tonight, while Canajoharie and Schoharie will meet Wednesday in a game that was postponed Thursday due to inclement weather.


St. Johnsville 40, Middleburgh 27

Alex Hart's game-high 14 points and a stifling defensive effort led the Saints past Middleburgh.

Dylan Klock chipped in 10 points for St. Johnsville, which held Middleburgh to just seven points in the first half to open up a double-digit lead.

Sean Green led Middleburgh with six points.
