Three members of the Amsterdam Common Council met with Amsterdam Mayor Ann Thane, Controller Ronald Wierzbicki, and Corporation Counsel Gerard DeCusatis for a brief special meeting Friday in Common Council chambers.
The meeting was held to formally adopt a resolution to authorize a contract with Hess Corporation for the provision of gas service from Nov. 1, 2012 to June 30, 2016, on behalf of the city for certain city-owned properties.
Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES acts as a pricing consortium for the provision of natural gas for the city and going with Hess was under their recommendation, the resolution read.
But at Tuesday's Common Council meeting council members asked for some more information about the bids.
At Friday's short meeting, Wierzbicki handed the council members and mayor the information requested, including entities that are in BOCES' consortium, the Request for Proposal, and the results of the bids received by Upstate Utility.
"As you can see, they identified Hess as the best price submitted," Wierzbicki said. "Upstate Utilities was invaluable to me in putting the budget together this past year, this past spring, and in my opinion the council should continue the arrangement."
The motion passed.
