Seven nabbed in bust

GLEN -- Seven people were arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office today after a six-month investigation into drug sales.

Sheriff Michael Amato said one was an inmate already jailed, and the rest were picked up across the county on warrants. Most of them allegedly sold drugs to informants during the six month period, ranging from suboxone, to pills, to heroin.

Undersheriff Jeffery Smith said pills, marijuana, cash and a Chrysler 300 were recovered in the 6 a.m. sting, which was conducted in cooperation with the St. Johnsville Police Department, Amsterdam Police Department, and the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The arrests are detailed as follows:

* Joseph T. Palmeri, 30, of 432 Eacker Road, Palatine, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving heroin.

* Scott B. Dunbar, 33, an inmate, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving heroin.

* Joshua Leach, 30, of 6 Chestnut St., Apt. 2, Amsterdam, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving suboxone.

* Scott M. Lathers, 40, of 6717 Route 5S, Minden, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving pills.

* Antonio Aponte, 38, of 373 Locust Ave., Apt. 2, Amsterdam, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving heroin.

* Monica Bonet, 33, of 373 Locust Ave., Apt. 2, Amsterdam, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in an incident involving heroin.

* Cara DeAraujo, 30, of 6 Chestnut St., Apt. 2, Amsterdam, was charged with fourth-degree conspiracy.

All were transported to the sheriff's office and processed, and transported to respective town courts for arraignment, and remanded to jail.
