Beatrice Lillian Geelan, 82, died Monday November 26, 2012 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville .
She was born in Endicott on July 22, 1930 a daughter of Howard and Agnes Sampson Birdsall and attended school there. At age 16, she moved with her family to Fish House and graduated from Broadalbin High School in 1948.
Bea took great pride in raising her family and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was known to be the best cook and baker in Fish House.
Mrs. Geelan was a member of the Northampton United Methodist Church at Fish House since 1946 and was its oldest member. She was also a fifty-four year member of the American legion Auxiliary in Broadalbin. Bea belonged to the Bridgeview Girls back in the '50s and '60s as well as a bowling league.
She was married to Erwin "Odie" Geelan on July 10, 1948. He died November 29, 2001. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Gary Birdsall and her sister, Gladys Fiori.
She is survived by a son, Gregg (Rachael) Geelan of Northville; four daughters, Brenda (Nick) Simon of Caroga Lake, twins Janet (Silvestre) LeBron and Janice (Alex) Ross, all of Amsterdam, and Laura (James) Lanfear of Fort Plain; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Northampton United Methodist Church at Fish House 1605 County Highway 110 Broadalbin with Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating.
Burial will be in the Edinburg Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00- 8:00 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the James Brennan Memorial Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.
