Richard Laport, 69, was run over by a pickup truck driven by his boss as workers were making improvements to the shoulder of King Road, which was recently paved.
State Police in Mayfield said Edinburg Highway Superintendent Wayne Seelow was driving a town-owned 2011 Ford F-350 truck at 11:04 a.m. Tuesday to pack down material used on the road's shoulder when he felt the vehicle go over a bump as he backed out.
Troopers said Seelow, 52, got out of the truck and discovered Laport beneath the vehicle.
According to a police report, the Troop G Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident, but there are no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role.
Troopers said Seelow said he never saw Laport and thought he was on the other side of the road.
Laport was pronounced dead at the scene by Saratoga County Coroner Thomas Salvadore.
