James J. Ross, 78, of Lincoln Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday afternoon October 7, 2012 at St. Mary's Healthcare.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 1, 1934, he was a son of the late James J. and Gladys Trummer Ross.
Jim received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.
Jim was employed as a serviceman for over 30 years for Sears & Roebuck Co., in Albany, where he received many awards for completing service related technical training courses. He was last employed part time by the Amsterdam Housing Authority in the maintenance department.
Jim was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict
He and his brother Joe were avid pool players, who were well known around the pool halls in the city of Amsterdam.
Jim was a man who had great love and devotion toward his family. He was also a man of great strength, and had perseverance, integrity and compassion for all who knew him. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and all of his friends
Jim is survived by his wife, Mara Viksne to whom he was married on August 10, 1958, one son, James J. Ross (Melissa) of Amsterdam, one daughter, Laurie Ann Ross of Amsterdam, NY, Two granddaughters, Megan Ross and Kristine Tessitore and one brother, Michael Ross (Georgiana) of Broadalbin, NY. Many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends also survive.
Jim was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph Ross Sr. and his sister, Mary Hatch.
Cremation was held at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady, NY.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family
