FONDA — A giant ice cream sundae was constructed Saturday at the Fonda Fair. And it really was giant.
It took nine large blocks of vanilla ice cream, piled high. Next came several bottles of chocolate syrup, poured on so it oozed down the sides like lava from a volcano. Sundae makers then used several cans of whipped cream to top it off.
The dessert was made in a small wading pool that would normally be filled with water, not ice cream, on a summer day.
“It’s a big thing every year,” said Wayne Wnuk, one of the volunteers.
Along with Wnuk, there were a dozen more volunteers in charge of stacking, slathering, scooping and serving the sundae.
The severs hurried as they tried to give everyone in the seemingly endless line a small taste of this giant concoction.
Children sat on bleachers, happily eating their frozen treat as it slowly melted and mixed with the chocolate syrup.
“It brings people together and puts the bad things behind us,” said Wunk.
The event was sponsored by the Farm Bureau of Montgomery County.
