Joel Baum, born in Amsterdam on April 25, 1950, and an Amsterdam resident most of his life, passed away at the age of 63 in Apex, North Carolina on July 19th surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with cancer.
After he graduated Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1968, he attended the University of Buffalo and returned to Amsterdam to work for Coleco for a number of years. In the latter years of his parents life, Joel and his lovely wife Raydene spent their time administering full-time care to them (Samuel and Sadie/nee Jacobs) before moving south to be closer to their son Eric and grandson Jacob.
Joel took great delight in following the highly successful high-school wrestling careers of both his son and grandson. When not attending a wrestling match, he could usually be found at his computer communicating with his many friends.
Also surviving him are his brothers, Harold, David (Pat), and Ronald (MaryLynn), his nieces Lisa and Taylor and his nephew MacEvan.
A gathering to celebrate his life is planned for the Amsterdam area in the near future.
