JOHNSTOWN -- The Amsterdam Under 10 baseball team posted an impressive 10-0 victory over Gloversville to win the Johnstown Tournament on Saturday.
Amsterdam won its five games by a combined 57-6 margin. Amsterdam opened tournament play with a 13-2 win over Broadalbin, followed by an 11-3 victory over Duanesburg, a 12-0 blanking of Canajoharie and an 11-1 win over Fonda in the semifinal to set the stage for the title game. Amsterdam won four of its five games via the tournament's 10-run mercy rule.
Peyton Ausfeld led Amsterdam in the tournament, crushing 11 hits, including two triples, a home run and 11 RBIs. C.J. Durinick added seven hits with four doubles and a home run. Andrew Spagnola and Michael Rocas has seven hits apiece and Caydren Gravely added six hits including a two doubles and three RBIs. Also, Tommy Ziskin smashed five hits with two doubles and three RBIs.
Murphy, who helped his own cause in the tournament with five hits, including a double and three RBIs, tallied three pitching wins in the tournament. Rocas had two victories and excellent relief was provided by Tyler Williamson, Nic Carbone and Durinick.
