Myrtle E. Wemple, 94, of Hickory Hill Road, Fonda, NY, passed away peacefully Monday morning at her daughter's home with her loving family at her bedside.
Born June 27, 1919 in Gloversville, New York she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Baker Ford. She was a lifelong area resident and she graduated from Fonda High School in 1938.
Myrtle was first employed as a seamstress for various glove shops in Fulton County and later she worked as a custodian for Fonda High School for 15 years retiring in 1984. She was very proud that she was the first lady hired as a custodian of the Fonda High School.
Myrtle was a member of the Glen Mohawk Seniors and she was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fultonville.
She was of the Catholic faith. Myrtle liked to cook and purchase Lottery scratch offs.
On March 27, 1940 she married Barney Wemple who passed away April 26, 1974. Myrtle is survived by two sons, Barney J. Wemple, Sr. (Linda) of Fonda and Jan B. Wemple (Robin) of Fonda; five daughters, Bonnie J. McKeon of Tampa, FL, Karen A. Owens of Fultonville, Kathy L. Vainauskas (Frank) of Fultonville; Pamela J. Furman (Randy) of Fultonville and Debra L. Krizan (Jerry) of Fultonville; twenty one grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; one great great grandson due in December and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Myrtle was predeceased by a brother John Ford, Jr. and two sisters; Edith Olmstead and Patricia Ford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY.
Cremation will follow at the Vale Cemetery Crematorium.
Burial of Myrtle's cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Cecilia's Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Myrtle's memory to Make A Wish Foundation, 1 Mustang Drive, Cohoes, NY 12047.
