Frank Dziewit, 96, of Voorhees Road, Perth passed away Monday morning June 30, 2014, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville.
He was born in Amsterdam on June 14, 1918, a son of John and Katarazyna Michalewicz Dziewit, was educated in local schools and later worked on the family farm in Perth. Frank was a skilled worker in the Amsterdam carpet mills and later in Alco in Schenectady. Following World War II, he was a carpenter and cabinet maker. Frank later worked as a machinist at General Electric Co. in Schenectady and retired in 1980.
Mr. Dziewit was a former member of the Perth Volunteer Fire Department as well as a 4th degree member and past Grand Knight of Columbus Council # 7629 in Broadalbin. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam for many years and later St. Joseph's Church in Broadalbin.
He loved the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Frank explored the lakes and forests of the Adirondacks on foot and canoe, camping for weeks at a time. After retiring, he enjoyed golf.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Fred, and a sister, Josephine.
Survivors include his wife, Mihalina (Mildred) Bartosik, of 74 years; a son, Kenneth (Linda) De Witt of Edinburg; four grandchildren, Amy (Richard) DeAngelis, Jack (Kim) De Witt, Molly (Doug) Doyle, Rebecca (Eric) Black; nine great-grandchildren, Mia, Aidan, Samantha, Blake, Colin, Chase, Brendan, Lucas, and Penelope (Poppy).
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday July 7, at 11am at St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions can be made to The Sarah Jane Sanford Home, 69 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, NY 12010
