For the Recorder
BROADALBIN -- Fulton County Sheriff Thomas J. Lorey said Thursday afternoon the search for two missing men will be suspended in the Great Sacandaga Lake for the time being.
Mark Richards, 51, and Brent Richards, 24, haven't been seen since Saturday morning, and were reported missing by Sunday night. Their car was found just off Lakeview Road in Broadalbin, and it was assumed they were out fishing.
"At this point we're not even sure they will turn up in the water or not" said Lorey. "No one saw them go out on the boat, no one reported hear or seeing anyone in distress. We need to take the investigation elsewhere at this point."
Lorey said this after four days of an extensive search of the Great Sacandaga Lake. Multiple agencies, using all types of watercraft, manpower and advanced side sonar technology have scoured the lake bottom for any signs of evidence. Not even the boat has turned up.
"Thousands have been spent on the lake search and to no avail, we have found nothing" said Lorey. "Unfortunately, at this point the likelihood of finding them alive in the water is very slim."
Lorey said the investigation will take other avenues. They are following the cell phone records of the missing men to see if there is any activity, and they have contacted friends and family out of state to report anything, should they hear.
The family is cooperating, and are confused as to where the men may be at this point Lorey said.
Sheriff Lorey asks if anyone sees or knows anything, no matter how trivial, to please contact the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.
