FONDA — 16-year-old Matthew Phelps pleaded guilty Wednesday at Montgomery County Court to murdering Jonathan DeJesus and Paul Damphier last summer in a town of Florida soybean field.
He faces between 15 years to life in prison when he's sentenced July 11.
Phelps admitted his guilt to each charge of second-degree murder, the most serious charges in the eight-count December indictment.
In addition to waiving his right to appeal, Phelps agreed to testify against Amsterdam teen Anthony Brasmeister, who is also accused of the crime.
Brasmeister's trial is still slated for June.
Damphier and DeJesus were reported missing to authorities July 10; their bodies were
found nine days later when state police and the Amsterdam Police
Department investigated a tip about what they described as "human
remains" found in a long field the morning of July 19.
