Hector Diaz scored four goals in his first appearance of the season, and Dillon Smith turned in a sparkling performance with 19 saves as the Amsterdam High School lacrosse team won its third straight game to open the season, rallying for an 8-4 win over Utica Proctor on Thursday at Lynch Literacy Academy.
Down 4-3 at halftime, the Rams held Proctor scoreless over the game's final 24 minutes while reeling off five straight goals to pull away for the victory, with Smith and defensive midfielder Isaiah Martin leading the charge in maintaining the second-half shutout.
Anthony Yevoli scored twice for Amsterdam (3-0), while Ryan Mihalek and Kevin Ottati each tallied a goal. Robert Santiago and Matt Fedullo provided assists.
Dan Banewicz turned in a crucial performance at the face-off spot, winning 11 of 15 draws for the afternoon.

Dylan Klock allowed just one hit over four innings and helped his own cause with three doubles to lead St. Johnsville to a win over Heatly on Thursday.
Brad Smith scattered two hits over two innings and Brandon Campione finished up the seventh inning striking out the side.
Payten Johnson contributed a triple and single and Andrew Hart had a double and single to lead St. Johnsville (1-0).

Fonda-Fultonville's Charles Parslow was sensational in his college debut, tossing a complete-game one-hit shutout to lead Hudson Valley Community College to a win over Jefferson Community College.
The lone hit issued by Parslow was a bunt single in the first inning. After that he retired 20 of the last 23 batters he faced. He finished the game with five strikeouts and did not walk a batter.
He threw just 85 pitches.
