TOWN OF AMSTERDAM -- Aladdin's Restaurant and Hookah Lounge at Route 30 celebrated its induction into the Fulton Montgomery Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.
Owner Zouhir Lian opened the business in July, shortly after moving to Gloversville.
"I realized there was nothing like it around here," Lian said.
After coming across a potential venue, Lian said he decided to create a place of his own where people could sit comfortably while dining, drinking and enjoying each other's company.
Aladdin's is a two floor restaurant and lounge. Primarily, the dining takes place down stairs and the hookah smoking upstairs.
A wooden bridge on the top story connects a dining area to the hookah lounge; a conversational piece to say the least.
Close to a year after opening, Lian decided to join the chamber after hearing positive reviews from friends.
He said that other businesses informed him of their assistance with new business owners and that he would be in good company.
"I want to be a part of the community and the town," said Lian.
